LinkedIn - Are you?

As I’m currently working my notice period in one role in anticipation of beginning another I’ve been in quite a lot of contact with job agencies of late. It’s the first time since I’ve spoken with any for about four years and the recruitment approach for some seems to have changed considerably.

At my current firm I’ve resisted the use of Social Networks, the idea of them makes me cringe on many levels (excluding Twitter, that’s a bit different) so it was interesting to hear from some firms about the use of sites such as LinkedIn to find and research candidates.

So, I’ve taken the leap and signed up, if you get spam from me apologies in advance!

It’s interesting that you mentioned the subject of Social Networks. I’m in contact with a guy who originates from Cambridge, England and is currently working as a Web Developer here in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. I recently asked him for advice concerning the programming knowledge, software etc. I should study up on for a career in Web Development. He said “these days, I’d say networking is more important than technical skills.”

You seem to be able to obtain a job easily without having to resort to networking. He really reminds me of you, of what little knowledge I have of you; he lives and breathes his job. That must be a stressful situation to be in! You are probably the smartest guy I know and should really consider moving to the relaxed atmosphere of Midwestern USA, at least for a while before moving to a busier, more populated state. It’s like therapy for stress heads like us! Take care and good luck in the new job!

Jo
